We are teammates, coaches, traveling companions, and all-around friends. The dogs look up to us with love and adoration with a driving instinct to please us; if that is, they can trust that we don’t take advantage of them or, in other words, overwork them.
People often ask:” Why don’t you ride on the sled?” My answer is simple and complicated: I’m their teammate, and they respect that. Complex because 99% of my training is psychological. Without going into lengthy detail, the short answer is: we must get inside their heads, think as they think, feel what they feel, and become so in tune with them that we become their teammates.
The result is that they will exhibit strength beyond human comprehension and accomplish feats that many say are impossible.
Tomorrow, I’m heading to the Arctic for nearly three months with my teammates. I look forward to sharing more photos and stories when we return!!
